October 6, 2003 Board Meeting Minutes
The South Dakota Coalition for Shared Parenting Executive Board met at the Sioux Falls Library on October 6, 2003 to discuss and develop strategies that support passage of Shared Parenting legislation in the 2004 South Dakota legislative session.
Board Members present: Steve Mathis, John Grosz and James Zajicek.
Other Members present: James Zajicek
Others Present: Ryan Brech, Michael Williams, James Zajicek, Jack Hartle, Brian Martin
No financial report was available, however, it is estimated after $700 in expenses that will be reimbursed to Steve Mathis for a portion of his previous expenses, $100 - $200 remains.
The Board recognized the resignation of the Coalition's West River Representative, David Murphy and appreciates his continued membership. This board position is available and will hopefully be filled at our annual meeting in January, 2004.
Those present discussed strategies for education and legislation including developing shared parenting and parent education legislation, getting churches involved, advertising our organization more, getting new members etc.
It was agreed that the SDCSP would present shared parenting and parent education legislation in the next session. James Zajicek would develop the Educational Legislation and Steve Mathis would develop the Shared Parenting legislation by the November 2003 meeting.
A Publicity/Membership committee was appointed by Steve Mathis, President to include Ryan Brech, Brian Martin and John Grosz.
Literature was provided to those present and discussed. This included the South Dakota Bar Association's legislative proposal for new relocation legislation, the SDCSP preferred parenting guidelines, homepage of SDCSP website, Ohio's Constitutional Challenge.
It was agreed that the Coalition Members need to take an active part in supporting our goals by soliciting new members, attending meetings, bringing new people to meetings, encouraging females to join and participate , and making people more aware of our organization and initiatives.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 3, 2003 at the SFall Public Library to firm up our legislation and strategies. It was agreed that several legislators in the SF Area would be invited for their input.
Current Membership as of October 14, 2003 is 34 members.
